Sudoku Craving

How do you pass time when you're heavily pregnant and not allowed to *touch* any housework? For me? I finished up all 100 puzzles in Sudoku Vol 2 by Will Shortz. I bought this puzzle book about a year ago and only advanced to the "Demanding" and "Beware! Very Challenging" levels early this year. I was introduced to this addictive game at my cousin's funeral wake by her friend...yes quite a strange start. Feels so "accomplished" to complete all the puzzles and I'm still craving for more...I now play it online here. Maybe one day I will pit my skills against xiao J :>

Belly Interest at the Market

It was a usual morning trip to the market with mil but the stall ladies selling noodles, fishcakes & beansprouts, etc suddenly took an interest in my belly! Both asked the sex and my due date. Both "proclaimed" that my baby's head has engaged and I'm ready for birth soon...both commented my belly looks "round" for a baby boy, almost expressing "disbelief" that I'm having a boy based on their "experience". Oh well, should I tell them I was showed the "wee wee" at my 20 week detailed scan? Surely not right...

xiao J at 37 weeks

My gynae has finally "spoken"! During our visit this Mon, 26-Nov when Xiao J is 37 weeks, he gave us the TMC admission letter and told us to go hospital immediately if there is any labour sign (spotting, waterbag bursts). He also said that I *have* to monitor baby's movements, average 10 per day. 2-3 weeks ago, he didn't encourage me to do that all!

Xiao J is getting cuter by the day...haha, I know all mamas say the same about their baby! Can't help it, he's adorable when he wiggles inside my belly and I can feel it clearly now that he is awake, active and vigourous more than before. I especially can't resist his sudden *strong* kicks - he doesn't kick so often and when he does, it is powerful and always unexpected :)

His papa is now back in Hanoi for his job attachment training with a Japanese specialist. He left on Wed, 28-Nov and will return next Sat, 8-Dec. I'm praying he can return as scheduled. I'm also praying that he'll be present during my delivery. I've asked xiao J to co-operate with me so we can both wait for his papa to return before delivery. I also told xiao J to move distinctively now that I must make sure I get at least 10 movements per day. Must say he's been a good boy throughout my pregnancy and more so now that I'm nearing the finishing line.

It's getting more difficult to sleep at night, nearly impossible to get into a comfortable position. My left ribcage aches badly so I can only sleep on the right side. Sometimes hubby snores and made it even more disturbing for me to fall asleep, together with the usual toilet breaks. When I'd given up sleeping, I would stacked my pillows to sit-up through the night. Mostly when I'm too tired and starts to lie down and sleep, it would be morning and I've to wake up! Sometimes the belly feels so tight and heavy from the Braxton Hicks that I can only sit on the edge of the bed until it subsided.

I wonder if I'll be happy when I regain my sleep again after delivery or would I be too exhausted waking to feed and change his diapers that it would not make a difference at all?

A Morning Call

It was so lovely to be awakened this morning around 7.15am by xiao J's little movement inside my womb. He is usually very still in the morning so I always presume he's asleep. Is he sensitive to me that he made only gentle movements with light prodding and some wiggling, just enough to wake me up? I can't remember if I said it aloud to him last night but I'd thought how wonderful if xiao J could wake me up this morning for marketing with MIL. It sounds crazy but I'm already thinking that I've a wonderful son!

A Night Out at Spizza

Had dinner at Spizza in Jalan Kayu with two ex-colleagues last night. We ordered:

Antipasti / Appetizers
Nerone, Breaded Crispy Mozzarella With Arrabbiata Sauce *a kind of spicy sauce

Pizza
Vittoria, Tomato, Mozzarella, Chicken Sausage, Mushrooms, Chili
Juliana, Tomato, Mozzarella, Cooked Ham, Pineapple

We all agreed that the very thin crusted, wood-fired pizzas tasted excellent. A friend who travelled to Italy years ago did tell me that authentic italian pizzas are thin-crusted unlike the typical thick, almost bread-like crust found here.

Cooking for One but Eating for Two

When you eat alone almost daily, it becomes a challenge to balance quick/easy cooking and tantalise the tastebuds with some variations so it doesn't get too boring. Why am I persistent in cooking for one you may ask? Well...I'm eating not just for myself but for my little one as well. Nothing is better to nourish the body and baby than a simple homecooked meal, I think.

Cooking with that in mind had greatly inspired me to cook more than I had ever done before and my cooking skills have improved alot in the process. I'm now better at modifying recipes to suit my own and estimating the seasoning required for a smaller portion. That said, I'm contemplating to order tingkat or home meal delivery for the next month until my MIL comes to stay with me. I need all the time to organize and get ready the baby's stuff and ample rest as I'm beginning to feel tired easily now that I'm beginning my 3rd trimester.

My Diner Meal

I'd my diner meal for lunch yesterday and a nice change from the rice, noodles and chinese cooking. I made myself a meat patty with minced meat, chopped onion and seasoned with salt, pepper, egg white and cornflour. The meat patty was to go into my Sunshine bread (didn't get burger bread as it comes in a pack of 4 that I can't finish now that I'm eating alone) topped with a tiny sunny-side up (leftover from egg-white), a slice of chedder cheese and 2 slices of tomatoes. I also made fries from 1 russet potato that didn't turn out quite as I expected (usually I buy Holland potatoes from market but bought the russet potatoes from NTUC) but I'm crazy about potatoes so it was just as tasty for me nonetheless.
